Corney said, “There's something wrong if we can't attract people to a match like this. Surely now, with the team in a play-off place, the town of Oldham can muster a good crowd to help us along. We've had a superb run in the last few weeks, but the players might drive us further forward if there are enough people supporting them. We want to solidify our position and make sure we go all the way to the Championship. Crowds haven't been great, but I'll be surprised, and very disappointed, if we don't have a minimum of 6,500 on Saturday, or hopefully 7,000. I would love to see the fans really getting behind us. The players and the management deserve it.”
However, it is unlikely that Corney will see his wish materialise as the biggest home league gate of the season is only 6,982 and that came against Yorkshire rivals Bradford City on Boxing Day, traditionally a high gate day. Rising entrance fees and poor form have meant that only the die hard supporters have followed the club through thick and thin. Occasional admission offers have boosted the gates but the club are still down on last seasons attendances, a season when the Latics had to fight for their Division One existance. Let's hope that the public of Oldham can rise to the challenge and do their bit to help the club reach the Championship
