Swailes talks of his hopes for the season

Chris Swailes recently signed a two year contract at Boundary Park after reaching agreement with Rotherham to termination his contract. He joined several of his ex-Millers colleagues and teamed up with his former manager Ronnie Moore.

He told the official site,“Its great to be part of the squad, to team up with Brecks and Ronnie again. Travelling for an hour or so in the morning, but at the same time I can't wait to get my boots on, can't wait to get a strip on and hopefully success with Oldham on the pitch. What you see is what you get basically, a no nonsense defender, if its got to be shoed in the stand, it has to be, but at the same time I like to think I can play a little bit. But first things first, get the job done, win my personal battle and I hope I can help the strikers out at the other end with a few goals, a few set pieces, flick on, the whole lot.”

“I have had a few free transfers, all the better for me, but at the same time I did go in my younger days for a few quid, but Rotherham have just been relegated. Mick Harford wanting his own players in so there are a lot of lads there shifting clubs. He wanted his own people in simple as that, and I don't blame him, so therefore when the opportunity arose through John Breckin ringing me I jumped at the chance. I had spoken to ten clubs previous but not quite right. In the end I chose what I know in the shape of Ronnie and Brecks.”

“I'm not so sure about Oldham's style of football yet. I will wait and see but knowing Ronnie he's been in this Division before and I think the supporters will know from what he did towards the end of last season at Oldham that he has a good chance of getting us out of this Division. Expectations will be high especially with the amount of turnover of players in and out during the summer, rightly so he has got some good players. I don't know if he has stopped yet we will have to wait and see but all guns blazing for that first game.”

“I have got over 30 goals in the last 5 or 6 years. I like to get on the end and I do get my fair share of headers, but at the same time I like to set them up for the other lads. As I say flick-ons and whatnot and hopefully I will get a few. Get one early on will calm my nerves because there is nothing worse than waiting for that first goal so we will wait and see.”

“I have just been shown around this morning and seen a few old faces, a few Rotherham lads here as well. I can't wait to see them come back from Ibiza and then hopefully let's get straight into it then. Let's not count the chickens yet. There are a lot of teams think they will get promoted also, but you don't have any divine right to go up there. Expectations are high and let's just see what we can do.”
