The Latics came a cropper once again at Prenton Park. With the prospect of a top six position they failed to get the win that would have continued their recent run of good results. Calvin Zola was facing his old team but the Latics were hit with an injury to goalkeeper Les Pogliacomi who had to be replaced by Craig Mawson after only 13 minutes. The first half was effectively a non event but Tranmere took the lead after 64 minutes when Dadi headed in against the run of play and then Hume put the game beyond doubt in the 73rd. minute when he made it 2-0. Another ex-Latics player should have made it 3-0 but David Beresford embarrassingly hit the ball over the bar after beating Haining.
