Talbot sums up after defeat

The Latics came a cropper once again at Prenton Park. With the prospect of a top six position they failed to get the win that would have continued their recent run of good results. Calvin Zola was facing his old team but the Latics were hit with an injury to goalkeeper Les Pogliacomi who had to be replaced by Craig Mawson after only 13 minutes.

The first half was effectively a non event but Tranmere took the lead after 64 minutes when Dadi headed in against the run of play and then Hume put the game beyond doubt in the 73rd. minute when he made it 2-0. Another ex-Latics player should have made it 3-0 but David Beresford embarrassingly hit the ball over the bar after beating Haining.

Brian Talbot said of his indifferent team, ā€œIā€™m very disappointed. I think the way we played first half we thought we were going to get something from the game. I think it was an even game. Maybe first half we edged it with the chances. I can't really remember our goalkeeper, both of them, making a save. Mawson picked the ball out of the net twice but I don't think he had to make a save. I think their goalie only made one save all night. So with the conditions which were very difficult with the wind, the 'keepers were not really worked. We came off the pitch and thought we've lost 2-0 and they've not really peppered our goal. Mawson had no chance with the two goals and with the second goal you've got to say well done and applaud it because it was a fantastic finish.ā€
