The latest comings and goings

Both Pedro Matias and Marcus Sawyer appeared for the reserves side in their loss on penalties to Bury in the Lancashire Senior Cup this week.

31-year old Matias is a Spaniard who was released by Walsall in the close season, and Sawyer is a left back who was freed by Luton. Sawyer was subbed in the first half of the reserves game after a poor performance, so it is no surprise Oldham are not offering him a longer contract.

As a left sided midfielder, Talbot was looking to Matias for some cover for David Eyres. But Talbot obviously thought him lacking in quality, and is not looking to offer Pedro a further deal.

There is good news for one trialist – midfielder David Lee. He signed for a week on non-contract terms, and Talbot is talking to him about extending his trial.

And the latest ‘keeper on trial with Latics is Steve Mildenhall, who is available on a free from Notts County. Today is his second day training with the squad. Big Les’s only professional back-up currently is Craig Mawson, who’s short-term deal expires in a fortnight.
