Thompson hopes for extended run

John Thompson is hoping that his return to action last week will see an end to his injury nightmares. He came on to replace Reuben Hazell after he was shown the red card and gave a good showing.

He told Latics World, "It was tough coming on at that stage when we were down to ten men. But I really enjoyed it out on the pitch. Everyone knows I've had a lot of injuries this season and just being out on the pitch with the lads was great for me. It was a pity about the result, but we showed more bottle in the second half and could have had a goal and got back at them."

"My fitness was great and my knee felt really good. This is the best I've felt all season and I think it showed in my performance. Now I want to build on that and stay in the team for as long as possible. I hope I get my chance to play and if asked I'd be delighted to do so. It's a pity for Reuben because he has been playing so well himself, but at the same time it gives others a chance which is good for me because I still feel I've got a lot to prove here. It's been stop-start all season and I haven't had a good run of games under my belt, but I'm looking forward to the future now and I'm feeling good."
