Thorne to make his debut at Northampton?

Athletic hope to sign Norwich City's experienced striker Peter Thorne. Thorne is 33 and made a name for himself at Swindon and Stoke before he moved to Cardiff City in 2001 in a £1.7 million deal. Depending upon which rumours you believe, Latics manager John Sheridan has already agreed a loan deal for rest of the season with the possibility of a full time move if it works out.

Norwich boss Peter Grant revealed, "Oldham have phoned and they've asked about Thorny. I think that's maybe because he's a Manchester boy but at this moment in time there's nothing happening on that. I've let Peter know and it's the same for any of my players. If we get an enquiry, I'll tell them. And it's up to him now if he wants to speak to them."

John Sheridan said, "Peter's a player I've enquired about and I'd bring him in if I could. It's ongoing at the moment. I don't want to say much more as there's not much happening. It's neither here nor there at the moment."

Thorne's move to Norwich in 2005 didn't work out well as he scored only twice in 39 first-team appearances, but he will make his debut at Northampton on Sunday if the deal is confirmed.
