Three players sign

Latics have signed three players on non-contract terms and all three could figure in tomorrow’s season opener:

Mikael Antoine Curier is above six feet, and the 20 year old striker was released by Nottingham Forest at the end of last season. He also had a spell at Preston North End and will be given the number 12 shirt;

Dave Carney is a left sided midfield player who was released by Everton and will wear the number 15 shirt;

Matt O'Halloran (pictured) is another 20 year old who was released by Derby County. He will wear the number 16 shirt;

Iain Dowie has also made his first loan signing of the season in Swedish Under 19 international Ndiwa Lord-Kangana. The player from Bolton was born in the Republic of Democratic Congo and has joined the Latics on a one month deal. Wanderer’s manager Sam Allardyce said of him, “He's 6ft 3in tall, strong and quick and he is very commanding in the air which is so important.”

Other player news is that John Sheridan has answered Iain Dowie’s call for help and has re-registered as a player for the coming season. Sheridan senior will keep his old number eight shirt and although he may not play too much, his experience will be invaluable to Athletic’s new young squad. The 38 year old retired after many knee problems but Shez has been convinced to sign a non-contract form.
