Trust Oldham instrumental in the deal which brought Luke Beckett

Trust Oldham has been instrumental in the deal which brought Luke Beckett to Boundary Park. It can now be revealed that the Trust will pay a “substantial” chunk of the striker’s wages whilst he is on loan from Sheffield United.

Barry Owen, the Trust Chairman and Latics Director, said: “The club owners were willing to pay Luke’s wages themselves, but we wanted to ease the financial commitment. We are paying a substantial amount, but this is the kind of assistance we’re always looking to give. When we obtained a three-per-cent share in Oldham Athletic, we took on certain responsibilities. This gesture is the responsible thing to do, and it shows what fans can achieve when they really pull together.” If Beckett’s loan deal is made more permanent it is possible that the Trust will continute to have a share of the player.

Manager Ronnie Moore still wants to boost his squad before the transfer deadline with Blackburn’s Gary Harkins being the major target. Moore wants to add some strength to the midfield and rumours are also rife that Paul Murray (pictured) may be making a surprise move back to Boundary Park.

Moore was left disappointed over Hull’s Delroy Facey and he commented, “We got a phone call which left me disappointed with the player and his agent. On the plus side we did manage a good signing in Luke Beckett and, with Jermaine Johnson coming back to fitness, there are a few options up there.”

Another rumours currently in the pipeline is that Will Haining may be on his way out of Boundary Park with Wigan being the club most likely to pay a hefty fee for his services.
