Athletic have received an "undisclosed" offer from Plymouth Argyle for young defender Neal Trotman. Trotman has impressed in the 21 first team outings he has made this season but he was not played against Carlisle last night in the light of the transfer speculation. Boss John Sheridan has vowed to back Trotman whatever the outcome possible move.

Shez told Latics World, "To be honest I have kept away from the process, so I don't know what's currently going on or with which clubs. As far as I know it's ongoing at the moment. There is obviously an opportunity there for the young kid, because he's done very well for us. I will always stand by Neal, whatever decision he makes, and I hope the call he makes is the right one. If he wants some advice from me he knows I will back him all the way."

It is rumoured that Plymouth have put in an offer which could rise to £500,000 depending upon appearances after an initial payment of £350,000. Trotman will be out of contract in the summer and if he left then the fee would be set by a tribunal and the Latics might receive less.
