Wellens woes intensify

Richie Wellens still can’t turn the team around to winning ways as the bad run of results continued with a 2-1 home reverse to Plymough Argyle on Saturday. He has vowed to change his style to give the players more chance of success.

Wellens commented, “For the first 25 minutes there was a real lull in the game, it was quiet, nothing was really happening and then all of a sudden you’re 2-0 down. There wasn’t a midfield player on the edge of the box to mark their player who scored. Then instead of consolidating for a bit and getting back into the game we concede a second goal. We’re going to have to change a little bit with the way we play. The second goal comes from us making two short passes, they knick it, ball goes out wide and the ball bounces off Johny Placide. We needed to change something; we were 2-0 down. I was going to take one of the midfielder players off and I took Ousmane Fane off because he was struggling with his groin anyway. Being 2-0 down we didn’t need a defensive midfield player.”

“I thought Duckens Nazon was a threat when he came on and could have had a goal or two, so the signs from him are very positive. It doesn’t matter what the other teams do we need to try and get to 54 points to stay in the league. For too many games now we’ve played well and lost. We need to start changing the mindset, we need to play badly and win.”
