Winjhard out for ever!

Clyde Wijnhard and Athletic have been dealt a devastating blow with the news that the leading scorer could be out for 12-18 months. A specialist has confirmed that he has a defect with his knee which he was operated on just a few weeks ago. Further surgery is now needed hence the long rehabilitation period.

With Wijnhard's contract up in May 2003 it should mean that the popular Dutchman could have played his last match in a Latics shirt. A very disappointed Dowie said, β€œIt is a crushing blow for us and absolutely awful for Clyde. He has already had to come back from more than a year out after suffering a car crash while he was at Huddersfield and he knows it may be difficult to get back into the game again.”
