Neil Wood has had his contract with Athletic cancelled. Plagued by a long term serious knee injury, the 24 year old midfielder is still struggling to get back to full fitness. With the transfer window closing, it was decided to allow him to sign for another club. The player will now become technically unattached which means that the restricted transfer period will not apply and he will be able to to sign for any club that shows an interest and can offer him suitable terms.Wood signed for the Latics on a free transfer back in the summer of 2006 and after a good start he faded out of the first team action. restricted by injury, he made just seven appeararances in the 2006-07 season.
