Worthington signs

Dave Penney has made his second signing in Huddersfield Town's Jon Worthington. Worthington is 26, has been with the Terriers since the age of nine, and is relishing the challenge ahead at Boundray Park. He told Latics World, "I spoke to the gaffer and I think I fit the bill regarding what he wants from his team. I know what his ideas are and I'm really hungry to play regularly and do well for myself and the team. I'm a fully committed player who leads by example on the pitch, and I like a tackle. Deep down, I am a winner."

"It's just a short hop over the Pennines and now I am looking forward to getting started with Oldham. It's pastures new and I think the change will be good for me. Huddersfield had some good games with Oldham over the years, and I remember playing in the big FA Cup fourth round tie a couple of years ago. It will be strange being on the other side of things when those games come around, but I'm looking forward to a fresh start here."

Assistant manager Martin Gray added, "Jon is an experienced player who showed great leadership at Huddersfield. He's played a lot of games and knows what this league's about, but most importantly he has the quality we need. Jon is a great addition to this club. He's a tackler who relishes a challenge - I was the same when I was a player. He didn't seem to fit at Huddersfield when they changed their style, but he's exactly what we as a management team were looking for. He's local, he's settled already and he has the potential to be very, very good for us."
