Youngster overwhelmed at progress

Carl Winchester is overwhelmed at the way his season has peaked out. He has established himself as a regular in the Latics first-team squad having made seven senior appearances, he has represented Northern Ireland and under-17, 19 and 21 levels, and has earned his first full international cap as well as signing a senior contract at Boundary Park.

The 18-year-old said, “I cannot believe what has happened to me and sometimes I have to pinch myself. This time last year I was still at school and never in my wildest dreams did I imagine all this happening so quickly. It was brilliant to get on to the field in Dublin but I was also a bit nervous as it is such a big step up. It has been a great experience however, and having my Latics team-mate Warren Feeney in the squad has been a big help."
