Youngsters celebrate with new contracts

Athletic have given six promising youngsters new deals. Professional one year contracts have have been given to 18 year old strikers Matty Wolfenden and Matty Barlow and 19 year old defender Chris Lever. Second year scholars, midfielders Chris Bagley and Michael Pearson and goalkeeper Terry Smith, have also been given one year professional contracts.

One promising youngster not to make the grade is teenage defender Kelvin Lomax. Lomax was given a professional contract only last summer. He made a total of seven first team appearances plus two appearances as sub. and was in the side knocked of the FA Cup by Bolton Wanderers last season. Lomax was hit with injury at the wrong time and did not get the chance to impress. He will leave the club at the end of the season.
