Another encouraging piece of news from new Latics boss Paul Dickov is the fact that he will be encouraging the youth set up at Boundary Park. He has already stated that he will reward young players with promotion to the first team.

He explained, "There are a lot of good youngsters here and I want to get them involved as quickly as I can. When you get a few of the youngsters training with the first-team squad, what tends to happen is that it gives the club as a whole a boost. Their mates will look at them thinking what they have had to reach that level and they know they will have to do the same things. The youth set up is very important at any club. I won't be scared to give any promising kids a chance while playing them also has a knock-on effect gives a feel-good factor throughout the club. And if the fans see one of their own on the pitch, that can make a big difference."

The news will be met with relief by youngsters at the club like Tom Eaves (pictured) and Paul Black who have been pushing to get into the starting line up.
