Zola called up for International duty

Former Latics boss Mick Wadsworth (pictured) has been appointed coach of Congo and wants Calvin Zola to play in the African Nations Cup in Tunisia early next year. If Zola plays in the tournament he could miss a month of second division action.

Zola was born in the Congolese capital of Kinshasa but qualifies for England next month under residency rules and he has already been asked to play for the England under 19 team. The 18 year old is on a full season loan from Newcastle and has to decide which nation he wants to represent and whether the International call up will hamper his league progress. Athletic are hoping the striker will turn down the chance of a full international debut and stay at Boundary Park.
