Zola joins Crewe

Ex-Latics striker striker Calvin Zola has completed a £200,000 move from Tranmere Rovers to Crewe Alexandra. His move went through following a successful appeal for a work permit for Zola. Tranmere boss Ronnie Moore said: "It was a great offer from Crewe and we decided to give Calvin the opportunity to move on. He was out of contract at the end of the season and there was a risk he would leave us then for free, so this is very good business for the club. It is a very high fee for a player with his goal to game ratio and number of starts."

"We have been in contact with Crewe for some time so we have been talking to a number of players as potential replacements. Now Calvin has left Tranmere, we can push on with those discussions. But it is vital that we take our time and make the right moves rather than rush in and make panic signings just for the sake of it. We're also looking to strengthen other areas of the team and hope to bring some more new faces to the club over the summer."

The latest rumour mills state that Huddersfield Town's, and another ex-Latics player, Luke Beckett is being linked with Tranmere. Ronnie Moore and Beckett worked together at Athletic when he was brought in on loan from Sheffield United.
