James Hayter got on the score sheet again a few days after his record breaking hat-trick and his 60th minute header was enough to give Bournemouth a 1-0 win against Oldham.

Hayter made international headlines in midweek with the fastest hat-trick in League history against Wrexham after coming on as a sub.

This time his powerful header into the top corner of the net from a centre by left-back Warren Cummings settled the match in Bournemouth's favour.

Oldham, on the fringes of the Second Division relegation issue, had the better of the first half and it needed two fine saves by Neil Moss to prevent Scott Vernon and Danny Boshell from scoring.

But, after the break, Bournemouth took control with Oldham keeper Les Pogliacomi standing between the Latics and a far heavier defeat.

Pogliacomi had little to do in the first half, but in the second he was required to make a number of vital stops.

Starting with a save from Carl Fletcher, Pogliacomi went on to keep out further goal bound efforts from Cummings, Warren Feeney, Claus Jorgensen and finally from Hayter.

In between Oldham should have equalised but for a dreadful miss by sub Calvin Zola, who failed in the 78th minute to get a touch to a centre from Jermaine Johnson when he was a yard out and with the goal at his mercy.

Oldham sub Ernest Cooksey came on in the 88th minute and was booked within seconds for a clumsy tackle as the Latics fought for an equaliser.

Cherries boss Sean O' Driscoll said: "I spoke to James Hayter before the match and told him he would make headlines for the wrong reasons if he did not perform because I would have taken him off. Then he came good and scored a great goal, better than any of his three in the week." Oldham acting manager John Sheridan said: "We should have taken advantage in the first half when we were on top but then Bournemouth upped their game and we did not respond as we should of done."
