The Latics got the away day blues once again at Dean Court. They dominated the first half and were unlucky not to leave the field with a half time lead but Bournemouth has historically never been a happy hunting ground for the Latics. Midweek ‘hat-trick record’ breaking sensation James Hayter headed the only goal of the game from a right side cross but Pogliacomi had to earn his corn to keep the score down. Substitute Calvin Zola had a glorious chance in the 78th minute when a centre from Jermaine Johnson found him a yard out with an empty goal, but he fluffed the chance and with it went any chance of the visitors salvaging anything from the game.

Acting manager John Sheridan said, “I’m obviously disappointed to get nothing from the game. I’m particularly disappointed with our 2nd half performance. I thought we did quite well first half and had one or two decent chances which we should have taken and then we would have gone in one or two up at half-time.”

“For half an hour in the second half they upped it and we didn’t. It’s as simple as that and that’s when they got the goal. I thought we started playing a bit after that but I was disappointed because I thought the game was there for the taking in the second half but we just didn’t start. I think it was always going to be a 1-0 game and I was disappointed. We’ve now got to get our mind on Tuesday’s game against Wrexham and look to get 3 points from that.”
