Athletic pulled off their first away victory of the season with a convincing 3-1 success at lowly Brentford. The Bees, coming off a great victory over Charlton Athletic last week, couldn't keep up with Athletic's powerhouse team. The home side took an early lead in the fourth minute after Weston walked round Dean Brill and cooly stroked the ball home. The visitors were soon back in the game though after Kieran Lee squared the ball for for Dean Furman (pictured) to finish with a low shot. Chris Taylor and Dale Stephens both had long range efforts denied and then Ritchie Jones hit the ball wide of the mark but the teams left the field at half time on level terms.

The Latics made the perfect start to the second half as they had the ball in the net within 17 seconds. Oumare Tounkara did the damage when he released Taylor on a run and he wasted no time in finding the net with a well-placed shot from 20 yards. Taylor was again in the thick of things midway through the second half when he was tripped by Leon Legge. The referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty and Stephens converted from the spot to make it 3-1. In an effort to salvage something from the game Brentford introduced three substitutions late on and they managed to put the Latics under pressure although by this time the game was over and the visitors had no trouble running down the clock.
