The Latics continued their recent run of poor form when they added to Brentford’s record of winning all their home games. Their first half performance was convincing enough with Jermaine Johnson (pictured) being unlucky on a couple of occasions. Rankin scored for the Bees five minutes from the break after Mark Arber failed to deal with a free kick.

Brentford increased their lead in the first minute of the second half when Burton headed in a simple chance and they maintained the momentum, not really giving the visitors any chances at all.

After the game Brian Talbot said, “I think that it was a very poor performance and obviously the buck stops with the manager. I don't play the game but I work with the players every day and today we looked a poor outfit. All credit to Brentford, they played very well but that's not really my concern. My concern's about Oldham and on the day I think the crowd summed it up. All they were asking for was a shot. I don't think we got a shot second half or a cross, so how are you going to win a game of football? We're in for a hard winter, and to be honest, and if I can't get them playing better than that then I have seriously got to look at myself. The performance is not acceptable, not good enough. I can see that for myself.”
