The Latics stumbled out of the LDV Vans Trophy at Bury even though they fielded a relatively strong team. Player-manager Preece put Bury ahead but the Latics thought they had equalised in the 32nd. minute through a John Eyre volley but to everyones surprise the referee disallowed it. With 13 minutes to go Thompson headed home the Shakers second but Calvin Zola put through Scott Vernon (pictured) to score a consolation goal in extra time. In the long haul it may not be a bad thing to be out of this MM trophy as the league season is a long hard one with many more important fixtures to deal with. Roll on the real cup on Saturday.
