Cheltenham 2 Oldham Athletic 1

The Latics went out of the FA Cup to Third Division Cheltenham Town with a disappointing display. With suspensions and cup-tied players Mick Wadsworth had to make five changes from the last agme. David Eyres was the only Athletic player to get a shot in on goal.

Naylor put Cheltenham ahead from the edge of the box with a fine individual goal before Eyres poked the ball home for the equaliser. In the second half it was Eyres again who did the probing for Athletic but it wasn’t enough and Cheltenham took the lead when the ball went in off Balmer's backside and then Darren Sheridan was given his marching orders for a second bookable offence after he went for a 50-50 ball.

All in all a poor performance from Wadsworth’s men and as a result Athletic miss out on a plum home draw with Burnley. With the return of so many inflential players we should look on this as a blip and concentrate on getting a play-off position which must become the priority now.
