Home sweet home for Us

Colchester secured their first home win of the season with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Oldham.

They took the lead after just 17 seconds through Anthony Wordsworth's superb left-foot shot from the edge of the area which flew into the top corner.

Wordsworth and John-Joe O'Toole both went close with headers for the Us before Oldham equalised in controversial circumstances when Reuben Reid scored from the spot after goalkeeper Mark Cousins was adjudged to have fouled him in the area.

But Wordsworth restored Colchester's lead with a penalty in first-half stoppage time after Zander Diamond was harshly ruled to have shoved Ian Henderson in the box.

And the impressive Henderson headed the Us further ahead 30 seconds after half-time, after meeting Michail Antonio's pinpoint cross from close range.

Defender Matt Heath headed in a fourth for Colchester 10 minutes later from Lloyd James' corner.

Oldham's Filipe Morais smacked the woodwork with a free-kick late on but Colchester deserved their win.
