Dickov delighted with progress

The Latics continued their confident start to the season with an encouraging 1-1 draw at Charlton Athletic. The result left both teams unbeaten and still joint top of the league but Latic's manager Paul Dickov (pictured) was disappointed with the result as he felt that on the balance of play his team should have emerged victors.

Dickov said, "The lads were absolutely fantastic, every single one of them. We feel we should have possibly won the game and were good enough to have won the game. I thought we played some really good football at times because this is a hard place to come to. They are one of the favourites for promotion and rightly so. We hit the post a couple of times, there were some goalmouth scrambles and their goalkeeper played fantastically well so there are loads and loads of positives to take from the game. I told the players I was proud of them, and they ought to be proud of themselves for the commitment they showed and football they played."

Jason Jarrett was sent off late in the game prompting Dickov to comment, "I have looked at the incident again and the disappointing thing for us it that we don't think it was a foul, never mind a yellow card. I have had a good conversation with the referee and he feels he made an honest decision."

The result is a testament to the progress that the team have made this season and it left the travelling fans with a happy trip home and left them believing that for once the Oldham public have a team capable of achieving something after so many years out in the stagnant wilderness.
