The Latics earned a well deserved point in the encounter at Hartlepool. The best chance of the first half fell to Curier in the 38th. minute after good work by Eyres and Murray but the usually consistent striker put the ball high over the bar from the back post.

Clegg replaced Haining after an injury and then Zola (pictured), making his debut, slid in only to see his effort come back off the post. ‘Pool started the second half well and Curier was replaced by Vernon in the 66th. minute in an effort to beef up the team.

The following band of Latics faithful saw Eyres hit the side netting and then Zola fumbled in front of goal before he sent a good header just over. Athletic got on top as the game drew to it’s close and Iain Dowie can be well satisfied with the performance from his patched up team.

They appear to be getting it together which is encouraging. Let’s hope that we can complete the season. Monday is the next deadline.
