The Latics staged an unbelievable comeback which witnessed them snatch a 5-4 win against high flying Peterborough United. The home side went in at half time in a sorry state after conceding three goals and looking in a desperate situation. It is unknown what went on at the half time team talk but whatever it was, it certainly worked. Many of the Latics' faithful walked out as the half time whistle went, and would they regret it?

Harkins scored his home debut goal early in the second half which pulled the score back to 1-3 after a corner from Smith. Minutes later it was 2-3 as Worrall grabbed his first goal for the club after Harkins laid on the pass for him to smash home. The fightback looked doomed as Posh made it 2-4 after a defensive mix up in the 62nd minute but the never-say-die attitude of Athletic encouraged another goal and Wesolowski slid home to make it 3-4 as the crowd went wild.

The pressure mounted from the home side and it paid off with four minutes left when Harkins punished the visitors from the penalty spot after a deliberate hand ball by Tomlin got him sent off. The Latics were amazingly level at 4-4. Could they do it or were they to be disappointed yet again. In an unbelievable finish, the winner came six minutes into added time when Kusunga smashed the ball home from Smith's corner to send the home fans into delirium after witnessing one of the greatest ever fight-backs by the team.
