Top scorer James Hayter inspired Bournemouth to their sixth win in their last seven league games with a brace in the 2-1 victory over Oldham at Boundary Park.

Hayter took his tally to 11 for the season by punishing poor defending from Oldham, who had taken the lead in the game, but have now gone eight games without victory in League One.

The break through arrived after only two minutes as Cherries centre-back Shaun Maher blocked a cross with his arm and was penalised for hand ball by referee Graham Balls.

Striker Scott Vernon stepped up to take the penalty and he slotted it into Neil Moss' bottom left-hand corner of the net.

Oldham, who had 17-year-old striker Chris Hall making his first league start, proved a handful up front despite their lack of goals in recent weeks. One move involving Hall and Vernon saw David Eyres fire in a low shot towards the corner of the net but he was denied by Moss.

Bournemouth were also lively and Hayter fired wide before Steve Fletcher saw his header tipped superbly onto the bar by Les Pogliacomi in the second half.

Hayter also deflected a Wade Elliott cross wide moments before he equalised on 59 minutes after another good ball from Elliott.

Pogliacomi failed to gather on the edge of his box and the loose ball was stroked in by Bournemouth's Hayter before he sealed their comeback on 76 minutes when he beat the offside trap to latch onto Fletcher's pass and drove the ball across the keeper and into the corner.
