We aplogise for the tardiness of this weeks report but the server was down so here we go:

The Latics dropped a valuable home point against Tranmere although Rovers were lucky to come away with anything. The first half saw Latics with more chances but it was Vernon who put Athletic ahead on the hour mark when he nipped in to fire home a glorious finish. The Latics deserved more from a composed second half but five minutes from the end Rovers levelled with a contentious goal after a right sided free kick. With the Latics defence waiting for an offside flag which didn’t come Dadi clearly handled the ball and fired home past Pogliacomi.

After the game John Sheridan, in his last official match as caretaker manager, said, “Very disappointed we didn't get the 3 points, I though our second half performance deserved the win. I don't think it was a good game to be fair and I thought it was a scrappy game all over. Great finish again from Scott. I thought there was only one team trying to win it, and then when we scored I thought we would go on and win it, but we conceded another sloppy goal. One or two of the lads were trying to play offside and one of the lads stayed in. Zola worked hard, he's getting his match fitness again. Muzza (Paul Murray) has got a problem with his hamstring and might be out for a couple of weeks or so - which is a big loss to us.”

“I'm just going to carry on and make it difficult for the owners. I have made it clear that I want the job. The lads have been a different class. I have only brought one player in - Gareth - who has done very well for us and the lads who have come in have done brilliant. Again it's another two points that we've lost and I've said that 4 or 5 times in the last 9 or 10 games and it's just about inches, about being on your toes and concentrating and hopefully that will come because I have been happy with the way we have defended and the way we have attacked. We just have to learn to stop letting sloppy goals in. That's what the good teams do.”
