Oldham Athletic 2 Brentford 3

The misery continued for Athletic when they again got defeated at Boundary Park, this time by Brentford. Pawel Abbott was again the Latics marksman as he chipped in with another two great goals but it's looking grim for the Latics as they remain just two points above the relegation spots but more importantly they have now used up all their make-up games. More worryingly was the gate as only 2,833 supporters, their lowest home crowd since May 1986, braved the elements to witness another home defeat, albeit with a better performance.

Dave Penney remained upbeat after the defeat and confidently expressed, "If we perform like we did against Brentford, and show the same work ethic and commitment,  then we will be okay. We didn't let heads go down when we went behind and kept going for it. We need to put things together consistently if we are going to win games, and that is what we are striving to do."

It was doom and gloom though for the supporters who have witnessed too many inept performances in what has been a truly disasterous season. One supporter threw his season ticket onto the field after the visitors scored their third goal and one wonders how the supporters can be appeased and encouraged to come out for the next home game on Saturday against Gillingham. Good performance or not, it's going to be a dogfight until the end of the season especially as the Latics seem to have lost the 'yard-dog' trait for what their successful teams of the past were famed for.
