Athletic held Middlesbrough to a 2-2 draw last night at Boundary Park. The first half belonged to the Latics as they chased and harried everything. They took the lead as early as the 6th. minute after Pavel Abbott put Chris Taylor (pictured) through and he finished with some style. The goal was the first that the visitors had conceded in all their pre-season build up games. It was a workmanlike performance and the home side thoroughly deserved their half time lead.

Gareth Southgate must have said something at the half time break as his team came out for the second half with all guns blazing. Boro quickly found an equaliser with a free header from Rhys Williams and soon afterwards they took the lead through Robert Huth. The Latics came back to draw level with a stunning goal from Keigan Parker. Parker took a free kick from all of 30 yards which went over the defensive wall, hit the crossbar and bounced down over the line. The 1000 plus crowd may have already witnessed the goal of the season before it has even started.
