The Latics again excelled in the quest to encourage investment into the club with a convincing 2-0 win over local strugglers Stockport County in front of a 7,000+ Boundary Park gate. Athletic took the lead after Calvin Zola was upended in the box and it was that man again, John Sheridan (pictured), who scored from the resulting spot kick in the 11th. minute.

It was 2-0 almost immediately after the second half kick off after Scott Vernon fired home from a Chris Killen rebound. County substitute Jon Daly was sent off in the 82nd. minute after elbowing Mark Hudson and the Latics held on for their third successive victory and to make it seven games without a defeat.

The win means that, remarkably, the Latics move into ninth position in the table, a position which would be unbelievable at the beginning of the campaign. What more does a potential investor want?
