Oldham Athletic 3 Halifax Town 0

The Latics opened their pre-season matches with a game against Halifax Town behind closed doors on Saturday, and quite impressive they looked too. They won in confident fashion by 3-0, with the goals coming from Chris Hall (2) and Gary McDonald.

It is rumoured that the club are sufficiently impressed with a French centre half trialist that they will be offering him terms. He played in the fixture and is big and commanding and looks like a likely candidate to fill the role recently vacated by the transfer of Branston to Peterborough. McDonald also showed some class as he linked up well with Wellens.

One cannot put too much emphasis on pre-season friendlies but it's a win and the more winning the team does the more they will build in stature.
