Athletic came from behind at home to Wrexham to record their fifth league win in six games . Wrexham took the lead through Morrell but Paul Murray pulled them level after 33 with a glorious volley into the corner. Wrexham skipper Brian Carey was then sent off after pulling back Stuart Balmer and conceded a penalty in the process which John Sheridan converted to give Athletic the lead.

The visitors fought back well and went close on a few occasions before substitute Carlo (always scores against Wrexham) Corazzin lobbed the keeper from 20 yards to seal the victory.

Mick Wadsworth commented, “It was a scrappy game and not very open but we kept chipping away and got there eventually. Once Wrexham went down to ten men we played well until the last few minutes when they put the big men up front and bombarded us.”

His Wrexham counterpart, Kevin Russell said, “We should have got something out of it and I can't complain about our performances or effort in the last month. We will turn the corner once we sort out our finishing because some of our football is very good. Confidence among the players is the problem and we competed well with a team who have spent a lot of money. There is a long way to go although it is becoming a bit embarrassing that we keep playing well and getting nothing.”
