The Latics maintained their new ruthless streak and chalked up their 7th. win in the last 8 games, a remarkable turn around. It was a real one sided affair and there was never a chance of any FA Cup upset by a poor Leyton Orient side. Chris Killen (pictured) maintained his recent goalscoring form and blasted a superb hat-trick to kill off the visitors. Orient were on a high after knocking out League One Walsall from the LDV Vans Trophy in mid week.

Killen’s first was a disputed penalty in the 26th minute, his second came 13 minutes later when he headed in Lee Croft’s centre and he completed a great hat trick in the second half when he chipped in a flick on from Kevin Betsy. Croft completed Orient’s mysery when he walked round the keeper and put the ball in the empty net. Bring on some big boys!

After the match Brian Talbot commented, “Obviously Chris Killen will grab the headlines but this was a good team performance and we might have had more goals. Chris has struggled with injuries but he's showed he is back with a bang. We have worked hard getting him back on the pitch after a succession of injuries and this was his just reward. Now it is all about doing it on a regular basis.”

“Although their players protested strongly about the penalty, Will Haining assured me there was no doubt about it because he was being held in a bear hug in the box. That's a definite penalty and their boy was stupid. Chris has wanted to prove one or two points to various quarters and he is doing that out on the pitch with his recent scoring record. He is very pleased with himself but there were other unsung heroes out there as well.”

“Now we have to turn performances like this into our League form because we are not happy where we are in the table. We are nowhere near out of the woods but slowly and surely we are getting there.”
