The Latics pounced on sloppy defending twice at Peterborough to claim another away point. Forinton bundled the ball home from point blank range after nine minutes to give the Posh a controversial lead. It was short lived however as Paul Murray soon ghosted in and equalised with a half-volley. Four minutes later Athletic took the lead after a Murray through ball was not cut out and Allan Smart (pictured) lobbed the ball over the goalie to delight the travelling Latics fans.

Peterborough exerted more pressure and took control in the final quarter of the game and it was no surprise when Fenn got a goal 22 minutes from time. He pushed the ball past Paul Rachubka who then had to produce a great save from Forinton just after a Bullard free kick had rebounded off the bar.

A relieved Wadsworth commented, “I honestly thought their first goal should have been ruled out for a foul on the goalkeeper, but a point is not a bad result. It keeps us right up there and that is where we need to be because the race for a play-off place is going to go right down to the wire.”
