Reading 2 Oldham Athletic 2

Athletic put last weeks disaster behind them and earned a creditable 2-2 draw at table topping Reading. The Royals came out blazing and another defeat looked on the cards when first Salako went close after 6 minutes and then Mackey headed Reading in front a minute later.

Reading were denied a second when Cureton's header was disallowed for offside and then they had a penalty appeal turned down after Baudet bundled over Williams. The referee, however, gave the free kick to Oldham for shirt pulling. The Latics were level in the 31st. minute as Duxbury (pictured) was given an easy header from an Eyres corner kick.

Reading turned up the heat and they took the lead again on half time as Forster sent over a low cross over which Parkinson somehow managed to bundle the ball into the net.

The Latics showed great character and went for the throat in the second half and Corazzin was unlucky to see his shot saved midway through the half. In the 75th. minute Reading were caught out by a cleverly worked free kick as Corazzin headed back from the dead ball line for substitute Smart to gratefully head the equaliser into an empty net.

Both sides fought ferociously for a winner and Forster almost did it for the home side when his free kick rebounded from the crossbar but Athletic did enough and deserved their point. The result will seriously dent Reading's Championship place but will it be enough for the Latics who are seeing their play off spot slipping further and further away?
