Another poor home showing

The Latics put in another below par performance as they went down at home again, this time 3-1 to Preston North End. Granted, the home side had to contend with a 10 man team for the last ten minutes due to Jonson Clarke-Harris being dismissed.

Latics' manager Lee Johnson admitted, "I think it's fair to say we were outclassed today. Credit where it's due, I think they are a very strong side. We started off with too many players in the first half having off-days. It's frustrating because that's a couple of times it's happened now at home. It's easy to play when you're 2-1 down because the opposition don't do as much and are nice and solid. You've got to have the bravery at 0-0 to take on the game and not enough players showed that today."

Goalkeeper Mark Oxley made a fantastic save from the penalty that Clarke-Harris conceded and Johnson said, "It was a fantastic save. We'll have to have a look at the sending off again because Jonson is adamant that he cleared it with his shoulder, so hopefully, with a bit of luck, we can appeal that. When he came on, he gave us something different which was pleasing. We've got to go again. The beauty of football is that there is a game just around the corner and it will be tough. You can't get your head down and you've got to move on. This game has gone, which we are disappointed about, but we move on and try to change that for Tuesday night."
