Chaddy in deep trouble

Chaddy the Owl is in deep trouble after Saturdays punch up with Bloomfield Bear, the Blackpool mascot. It all started harmlessly enough as the two mascots were taking penalties at each other during the half-time break but got out of hand when Chaddy hurtled Bloomfield’s boots into the crowd. Blackpool officials have vowed that Chaddy will never set foot in their ground again.

Chaddy insists that the bear was niggling him before the match when he damaged his beak and tried to knock him over. One of the boots never returned and Blackpool claim that they will have to cancel nineteen pre-Christmas appearances due to the loss.

Press Officer Matthew Williams said, “I was in the press box and they were play-fighting when Chaddy waded in and seemed to be kicking 10 bells out of Bloomfield Bear.” Chaddy said, “Ninety per cent of mascots are top guys, but some of them think if they can floor Chaddy the Owl they can be in the newspapers. At half-time I tripped him up and we were doing only comedy punches, but he was laughing. I didn’t take his boots . . . he had taken them off for the penalties and I threw them into empty seats.”

Stewards escorted Chaddy from the pitch where he was warned about
his actions by the police. The Chaddy end responded with a rousing chorus of “One boot, you’ve only got one boot, you’ve only got one boot, you’ve only got one boot.......................”
