Dowie can spend

Latics owner Chris Moore has pledged finances for Iain Dowie to make two new signings in a concerted push to finish the job of promotion, which was cruelly taken away from them at the 11th. hour of an otherwise successful season. Although Dowie’s future at the club is still not confirmed, the news that he can spend may have a bearing on his decision.


First in line must be a goalkeeper and then a striker after the club announced that two keepers and Carlo Corazzin are being allowed to leave. Clyde Winjhard’s (pictured) future is still uncertain as he awaits the results of an operation on his troubled knee and he could be retained on a pay as you play deal until his fitness status is secure. Some of the players whose contracts are being renewed are being asked to accept pay cuts in order to remain at Boundary Park.
