Dowie returns to drain the blood from Athletic

Iain Dowie is poised for a double swoop on Athletic’s players. Dowie has already spoken to Paul Murray (pictured) and Les Pogliacomi and is ready to offer the pair terms which the new owners at Boundary Park would find hard to match. As both players will become free agents at the end of the season it would be hard to resist any sensible offers. The new owners want to keep both players and new deals have been prepared but it it thought that any offer that Crystal Palace put on the table could not be matched. If Athletic do not accept the offer, both players could walk away from Boundary Park in four months for nothing.

Murray has made 88 appearances since signing from Southampton and Pogliacomi was signed by Mick Wadsworth although Dowie was the driving force as he got him into the starting line-up. Pogs was instrumental in getting the Latics to the play-offs last season and set a new club record for clean sheets in the process.
