Has Windass played his last game?

It could be that Dean Windass has played his last game for Athletic. After playing just three minutes of Oldham's last two games he has told the Latics chairman that he is not returning to the club as he feels let down and angry.

Windass has his own blog on the Internet and he said, "In the last three days I feel promises that were made to me when I joined the club have not been kept. I was told manager John Sheridan wanted me to come to the club and that I would get the games I wanted and hopefully get Oldham into the play-offs. Last week Shezza said he would not be playing me in the games against Millwall on Saturday and Leeds on Monday. It was a fair shout as the matches were in quick succession and so instead of sitting on the bench at the New Den, I told him to put a young lad in my place so he could get some appearance money."

"But my understanding of this was that I would then be involved against Leeds. However, this time I was stuck on the bench and only came on for the final few minutes which was embarrassing and insulting. Not being funny but that's not what I need at this stage of my career. The manager's not said anything to me since Saturday so I'm at a total loss to understand what's happened. This is not what I signed up for."

"I turned down three Championship clubs to play for Oldham and I did it as a favour to a mate but now I've been let down. What's the point of sitting on the bench for a League One club? I could be sitting on the bench at Hull City? In fact, if I'd stayed I'd probably be playing by now. As it stands now, I've said my piece to the chairman and I am waiting for his response. The chairman's been different class and understands my point and other people have told me to stick to my guns no matter what happens next."
