According to manager Iain Dowie, the Latics need “six or seven” new players to see them through to the end of the season. With three suspensions due to start the manager needs to bolster his already wafer this squad. He hopes to talk the two new investors into helping the situation by bolstering the current transfer embargo. The club currently only have permission to sign a goalkeeper and one out-field player.

Dowie commented, “I’ve always said we were thin on the ground, and we definitely looked it at Gigg Lane. The young lads have done manful jobs but we don’t have the squad for a 46-game league season. We need bodies as soon as possible, probably six or seven of them.”

Iain Dowie however is again linked with yet another club. It seems that every time a manager is sacked, Dowie is linked with the vacant position. This time Crystal Palaces’ sacking of Steve Kember means that the media are again linking Dowie with the job.

Dowie is a former player at Selhurst Park but he said, “Palace are a huge club and I had a great time there but it’s not for me to comment on their position.”

Rumours are also rife that Waggon & Horses, who are currently bottom of the Third Division of the Oldham Sunday League and lost 18-0 at Fitton Hill Rangers last week, are looking for a new manager. An unconfirmed source said that Dowie is being linked with the position.
