Injury worries hope to be solved before season opens

Athletic have several injury worries ahead of the season opener at Luton on Saturday. Defender Will Haining took a knock at Rochdale and never came out for the second half. He has been troubled with a toe problem recently but the knock on the ankle caused some serious bruising. It will be a blow if Haining misses the opener as he looked set to start the season alongside new signing Mark Arber in the middle of defence after some good performances which resulted in the team conceding only one goal in pre-season friendlies.

Although John Eyre (pictured) missed Friday’s match with a groin strain Manager Brian Talbot is hopeful that he will be fit and defender Danny Hall and forward Wes Wilkinson are both back in training. Talbot said, “Hopefully Will Haining and John Eyre will be fit and we'll take it from there. I hope both of those players are fit because they are in my plans. It's nice to see Chris Killen, Boshell and Appleby playing because they hadn't played last season and it's nice to have them back.”
