Latics look for support from Mansfield

Athletic will turn to Mansfield Town in the hope to save David Eyres (pictured) from suspension for an alleged kick at Craig Disley. Disley said, “It was no more than a tangle of legs” and it is hoped that referee Paul Taylor will include the evidence in his report but he cannot use video evidence as the incident was not caught on camera.

If the decision is not overturned Eyres will be ruled out of the matches against QPR, Luton and Northampton. Of the incident, Iain Dowie said, “Their lad was happy to tell the referee nothing malicious happened, which must be the case because David Eyres just isn’t like that. It’s ridiculous that three players were sent off — I’ve seen rougher games when we mess about in five-a-side.”
