Athletic's owners are doing all they can to keep striker Lee Hughes at the club and have made him an offer that they hope will keep him at Boundary Park. The 32 year old striker has already hit 13 goals and has attracted the attention of several clubs who are looking to sign him in the January transfer window. The deal currently on the table is the biggest ever offered to a player by the club's current owners.

John Sheridan emphasised, "Lee is vital to us. Obviously he has scored 13 goals in half a season and that is good going in anyone's book. He is our main striker and it's important he keeps fit, keeps playing football and keeps scoring goals. We are trying to keep him here and we will have to see what happens on that."
