Lomax to fill left back spot?

John Sheridan feels that defender Kelvin Lomax could be the one to fill the troublesome left back spot. He has done enough in the last three pre-season games to suggest that he could make the spot his own and may even have pushed Stefan Stam one step down in the pecking order for left sided defender.

Sheridan said of the 20 year old, "Kelvin did very well. He's a very intelligent footballer and he knows that I know that. I've also told him that his defending worries me at times, but he did well. Both he and Neal Eardley are defenders first and foremost, but they're good players and I want them to give me a selection headache."

"I'm still enquiring about left backs, and it's probably the only position I'm still looking to strengthen right now. Money's tight, make no bones about it, but I've still got Stefan Stam and John Thompson as well as Kelvin who can play left back. There could be a place there for Kelvin if he wants it enough."
