New players before weekend?

Iain Dowie is hoping to sign two players before the visit of Notts County and is already closing in on two loan signings. Signs are also good that John Eyre and Paul Murray may have recovered from injury sufficiently enough to make the team. Dowie sees this as a big boost and said, “John Eyre (pictured) shouldn’t be a big problem as his back is just sore and we aren’t overly concerned. Paul Murray has an outside chance of playing against Notts County, so we’ll work hard with him and see how he goes.”

The Football League have given the club permission to break their transfer embargo due to the massive amount of injuries. Dowie is still hopeful of bringing Fulham’s Mark Hudson back for a second spell at the club and he thinks that Hudson may agree to a longer-term loan. The other target is still a closely guarded secret but the player does have Premiership experience. There are still problems with his work permit but indications are that it will be granted.

Matt O’Halloran’s new deal at Boundary Park means that both he and Athletic can cancel it at short notice. Dowie added, “I would be amazed if we don’t get two players in by the end of the week. Our product on the pitch has not been as good as it was, but hopefully we are starting to address some problems.”
