No immediate signings expected

The success of the Latics in recent months has made John Sheridan put his plans on hold to sign new players. Now on an eight match undefeated streak the Latics boss is happy with the current set up. It was thought that the release of Lewis Grabban after his loan spell from Crystal Palace would free up wages to allow Sheridan to bring in another player but the shrewd Sheridan has realised that his squad currently has enough strength in depth to not warrant another signing at this immediate time. His operating budget has been vastly reduced due to the losses caused by paying off players that were signed during the Ronnie Moore era.

Shez said, “Anyone I signed would only be on the bench, so while everybody is fit I'm quite satisfied. We are a bit light and I do think we need one or two additions, but it wouldn't be fair on either us or a new player if they weren't in the team. What we can't afford is a lot of injuries and suspensions all at once. We don't have the squad to cope and it might cost us in the end. But everybody knows money is tight, so I don't want to waste it when we don't really need new players.”
